The Samburu tribe of Kenya's northern frontier are a tall, lean people who live as semi-nomadic herders of sheep, goats, donkeys, camels and cattle. The Lmurran warriors maintain long braided hair and traditionally decorate their faces and torsos with patterns using a cosmetic mixture of animal fat and red ochre. To protect livestock and for personal protection against predators and raiders, they traditionally carry a seven-foot throwing spear. The Cold Steel Samburu Spear reproduces that traditional form. Each spear breaks down into three components: the spear head permanently welded to a thick steel shaft; the counter-balancing butt spike (also known as the shoe), which can be used as an alternative point for practice throwing to preserve the blade; and the black hardwood handle with a double taper connecting head and shoe. The Samburu Spears come unassembled for ease of transportation. Fit the blade and butt spike tightly to the handle and secure them with the provided retaining screws. They come complete with a Secure-Ex® sheath. These spears are built for robust field use and are designed for stable flight, a flat trajectory and strong impact at distance. NOTE: We've made our Samburu Spears as tough as possible. However, if you bend your spear shaft or "shoe" (butt spike) it can be straightened in a vise or with a hammer, and the hickory handle can eventually break, so please be prepared to replace it.
